Living in an apartment with a big communal area, it can sometimes be difficult to decide what genre of music to play, as the residents can be very different. Aura Chord uses the Last.FM API to pull data from the individual user, to merge a list of songs, artists or even genres they all have in common. A smart design, that will ease the choice of music.
The prototype was done in processing, using the Minim library to control the sound. Via the API from Last.FM, it was fairly easy to merge local playlists using the meta data and information about their music taste.
Our prototype highlighted how it was possible to find common interests in most peoples music library. For the prototype, we decided to do user identification simply by letting the music player know by the push of a button. But our concept presentation included possible future development, that could ease the tracking and user identification.
